When we decide to start living on our own terms, it’s scary as f*ck, but it is also transformative! When we stop looking toward our parents, significant others, friends, coworkers, or the person we met in the grocery store for praise and excitement for our idea and chosen path, it gets a whole lot easier to live, learn, grow, and be happy.
The difference between seeking permission and support from those we care about is our decision. I’m challenging you to make your decision to make the change in your life that you’ve been putting off and stick by it. Then if and when you bring others into the fold, make it clear to them that you are only seeking support unless asked otherwise. Too often we seek permission and advice from people who are not the best suited to give it. You wouldn’t ask your professional hair stylist how to build a cyber security system for your new startup. So why are you seeking permission from your friends who are in a different place than you in life or career? Even though someone may know you, they don’t know how to live your best life. Only you do. Today, make the commitment to begin your transformation, because you don’t need anyone’s permission but your own. *If you still can’t do it, email me at sebastian@sebastiannemec.com with the Subject Line “PERMISSION SLIP” and I’ll write one for you (but you don’t really need it).
